Electric power infrastructure has recently undergone a comprehensive transformation from electromagnetics to semiconductors. Such a development is attributed to the rapid growth of power electronic converter applications in the load side to realize energy conservation and on the supply side for renewable generations and power transmissions using high voltage direct current transmission. This transformation has altered the fundamental mechanism of power system dynamics, which demands the establishment of a new theory for power system control and protection. This paper presents thoughts on a theoretical framework for the coming semiconducting power systems.

The Nanoscale Density Gradient as a Structural Stabilizer for Glass Formation Article

Engineering 2023, Volume 29, Issue 10, Pages 120-129 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2023.01.010
The rapid cooling of a metallic liquid (ML) results in short-range order (SRO) among the atomic arrangements and a disordered structure in the resulting metallic glass (MG). These phenomena cause various possible features in the microscopic structure of the MG, presenting a puzzle about the nature of the MGs' microscopic structure beyond SRO. In this study, the nanoscale density gradient (NDG) originating from a sequential arrangement of clusters with different atomic packing densities (APDs), representing the medium-range structural heterogeneity in Zr60Cu30Al10 MG, was characterized using electron tomography (ET) combined with image simulations based on structure modeling. The coarse polyhedrons with distinct facets identified in the three-dimensional images coincide with icosahedron-like clusters and represent the spatial positions of clusters with high APDs. Rearrangements of the different clusters according to descending APD order in the glass-forming process are responsible for the NDG that stabilizes both the supercooled ML and the amorphous states and acts as a hidden rule in the transition from ML to MG.

There is a close correlation between physics and engineering technology, and the relationship between physics and energy engineering is a typical example. Applied physics could make significant contribution to China's energy development. This article discusses some energy problems, such as nuclear physics and unclear energy (including fission and fusion energy) , photoeffect and photovoltaic electricity, physics and wind/bio - mass energy, physicsal chemistry and clean coal technology, and geophysics and energy resource exploration. The article also discusses three applications of physics in energy saving in fields of illumination, building and transportation. Finally, the article analyses the prospects of energy sustainable development in China.

Practice and Consideration on CAPP
Li Peigen,Zhang Guojun
Strategic Study of CAE 2005, Volume 7, Issue 3, Pages 13-16
Computer aided process planning (CAPP) has been regarded as not only an important research area for the informatization on shop-floor level, which presently remains a relatively weaker sector in information-based manufacturing, but also a bridge across the informatization of shop-floor and enterprise levels. For its wide spectrum of tasks with vast amount of contents involved, as well as for its strong necessity in customization to different manufacturing sectors and various manufacturing processes, CAPP has met with difficulties in generalization and commercialization. On the other hand, due to its position as cross point among various manufacturing activities, it has been proven difficult in integrating with other enterprise application systems. This paper introduces some advancements in the R&D of CAPP, including the application of framework technology in the development of an open architecture CAPP platform, system integration based on BOM transformation, as well as promoting the application of CAPP thorough solving typical problems for some specific industries. In addition, some trends in the R&D of CAPP are also pointed out, i.e., quantified analysis and parameter setting, CAPP based on 3D models and CAPP for shop-floor applications are important directins for further R&D in this area.
